RedM and FiveM: what changes

RedM and FiveM come from the same root, which is why people expect experience to transfer directly. A great deal does — but the differences sit exactly where they cost most.
Same base, different game
Both rest on the same family and a similar resource logic. Administering a server is therefore almost identical.
Resources are not interchangeable
A FiveM script does not run on RedM. The games differ in models, animations and events, and adapting is real work rather than copying files.
The ecosystem is much smaller
There are thousands of ready-made resources for FiveM and considerably fewer for RedM. That means more in-house work and a longer wait for each feature.
The pace is slower
The Red Dead Redemption 2 world is slower, and that changes the nature of roleplay. A server chasing the speed of urban RP feels wrong.
A smaller, steadier audience
RedM communities are smaller but usually more committed. Ten good roleplayers are worth more here than a hundred passers-by.
The load is comparable
Both platforms are loaded mainly by resources and player count. A badly written script costs just as much in either.
The database works the same
The logic for storing characters and property is very close. That is where FiveM experience transfers most directly.
Moderation is identical
Rules, moderators and keeping a community together do not depend on the game. That part is the most important and the hardest on any RP server.
Do not assume the same solutions
A problem solved on FiveM by a well-known resource may need an in-house solution on RedM. Budget time for it.
Which to choose
If the group wants the city and cars, the answer is FiveM. If they want a slower, more narrative world, RedM is better — a matter of taste, not quality.
Moving between them
Community, rules and moderators transfer. Scripts and map changes do not.
Most of what precedes is a matter of organisation rather than technique: the decisions are made before you start, the backups have to actually run, and the rules are written while nothing has gone wrong yet. Our RedM server hosting takes on the part there is no reason to do by hand — automatic backups, a database and instant setup, along with a panel where settings, files, mods and restarts are handled without ever opening a command line.
