RedM server performance

RedM server performance depends far more on what you put into it than on how many people are connected. One bad script outweighs ten players.
Resources are the main cost
Every started resource does work, even if nobody uses it. A hundred resources of which twenty are used is eighty resources of wasted computation.
A badly written script is the most expensive
A script that checks something every frame costs more than the rest of the server combined. There are many of them among community resources.
Measure rather than guess
The server has tools that show how long each resource takes. One measurement says more than a week of guessing.
The database as a bottleneck
If every action writes to the database, it quickly becomes slower than the game itself. Query volume is the most common hidden cause.
Player count
Each player brings a character, property and surroundings. That is a real cost, but usually smaller than poorly chosen resources.
Map changes cost
Added buildings and areas must be loaded by everyone. Large map mods lengthen connections and load continuously.
Signs the server is too small
A gap between an action and its result, characters teleporting, long loads on connect.
What helps immediately
Turning off unused resources, cutting database queries and limiting map mods.
Only then a bigger plan
If resources are clean and the load persists, the limit is real. Before that, a bigger plan simply pays for a bad script.
The client side matters too
Part of the latency is born on the player's machine. Before blaming the server, ask whether everyone sees the same thing.
Growth is continuous
An RP server never gets simpler: content is added every month.
Most of what precedes is a matter of organisation rather than technique: the decisions are made before you start, the backups have to actually run, and the rules are written while nothing has gone wrong yet. Our RedM server hosting takes on the part there is no reason to do by hand — automatic backups, a database and instant setup, along with a panel where settings, files, mods and restarts are handled without ever opening a command line.
