The community on a RedM roleplay server

A RedM server lives on roleplay, not on scripts. The best-configured server stays empty if nobody there wants to tell a story.
Roleplay needs agreements
Without rules, any RP server turns into a shooting range within weeks. Rules do not limit the story: they make it possible at all.
Character creation
Asking for a short backstory filters out passers-by. It is the simplest and most effective quality tool there is.
A slow world is an asset
The Red Dead world is slow, which suits narrative roleplay. A server chasing speed is fighting the game itself.
Short rules
Three to five clear rules work better than a long list. The most important usually concerns what may be done to another player's character.
Moderators before opening
At least two people must be able to decide. One moderator means that on half the evenings nobody is there.
Do not punish immediately
Most breaches come from misunderstanding rather than bad intent. An explanation the first time keeps a player who would otherwise have left.
Events keep the server alive
A regular agreed event gives a reason to come back. Without events the server lives only on what players invent alone.
Do not grow too fast
A hundred new players with no moderators collapses in a week. Growth is tied to how many people are actually ready to take responsibility.
The application form filters more than rules
A short ten-minute form keeps out those who only came to look around.
Backups protect the community
A lost database means every character gone. That scatters a group faster than any latency.
Consistency wins
A server that is there every evening and behaves predictably builds a player base faster than one whose rules change weekly.
Most of what precedes is a matter of organisation rather than technique: the decisions are made before you start, the backups have to actually run, and the rules are written while nothing has gone wrong yet. Our RedM server hosting takes on the part there is no reason to do by hand — automatic backups, a database and instant setup, along with a panel where settings, files, mods and restarts are handled without ever opening a command line.
