Choosing the map for your Farming Simulator 25 server

On a Farming Simulator 25 server, the map is the hardest decision to undo. You can change mods, settings and production plans; you cannot change map without abandoning the career.

Official or modded

Maps shipped with the game have one decisive advantage on a server: they depend on no mod, so they cannot become unavailable. There is no risk of an author pulling their work or publishing an incompatible update in the middle of your career.

Modded maps, on the other hand, supply most of the variety: real regions, different farming styles, unusual scales. For a community that has played for years, that is often what brings the interest back.

The sensible compromise: start a long career on an official map, and keep modded maps for shorter seasons you are willing to finish.

Size

Bigger is not automatically better. On a server with four or five regulars, a very large map feels empty and lengthens every journey. Compact maps, where plots sit close together, produce far more interaction between players.

Farming style

Some maps are built for large mechanised arable farming, others for small plots, livestock or forestry. That choice dictates what your group will buy for months. It deserves a conversation rather than a quick vote.

Checks before you commit

• Is the map built for multiplayer? Not all are, and some behave badly with several players.
• Does the author still maintain it? An abandoned map can break at the next game update.
• What mods does it assume? Some maps require specific production or machinery mods.
• How heavy is it? A very detailed map costs the server more, and costs each new player a longer download on first connect.

Deciding as a group

The map sets what everyone will be doing for months, so it is worth agreeing on the farming style before the name of a map is even mentioned. A group that wants big arable work and a group that wants livestock and forestry will be unhappy on each other's choice, and no configuration setting reconciles that afterwards.
