Palworld mods on a dedicated server

The question comes up quickly once a Palworld server has been running for a few weeks. The honest answer is that there is, as things stand, no official server-side modding support — and that changes how the whole subject should be approached.
What that means in practice
Without an official framework, the existing tools are community-made. Three consequences to weigh before committing:
- Nothing is guaranteed from one update to the next. A game patch can break a tool overnight, with no warning and no quick fix.
- Players have to keep up. Anything that adds content requires everyone to install the same thing at the same version.
- Diagnosis gets hard. A modded server that crashes does not tell you whether the problem is the game, the tool, or one desynchronised player.
What you can do without mods
This is the part most people underestimate. Palworld's configuration file exposes a range of settings that cover much of what people go looking for in mods:
- Capture speed, spawn rate, damage dealt and taken.
- Carry weight, crafting speed, base output.
- Slot count, day length, autosave interval.
Before installing anything, it is worth checking whether the setting you want already exists. It often does, and it carries no risk.
If you go ahead anyway
- Back up first. An external backup, not the server's own, and verified.
- Freeze the list. Note every tool and its exact version, and treat that list as the reference for you and your players.
- Plan for downtime after every patch. That is not a risk, it is the normal working pattern.
- Test on a copy. Never directly on the world twenty people have built in.
The right call
For a private server among friends, experimenting costs little. For a community that relies on the server being up, the risk-reward is much less favourable while official support does not exist.
Either way you need full file access. Our Palworld hosting provides it over WebFTP, with schedulable backups — the basic precaution before any experiment.
