Sizing guide

How many slots for your Garry's Mod server?

Concrete guidance to pick the right plan first time.

10 to 24 slots

Sandbox or TTT with friends.

32 to 64 slots

Community DarkRP with ULX and Workshop addons.

90 to 128 slots

Large DarkRP or event server with heavy traffic.

Garry's Mod runs Lua on a single thread: one poorly optimised addon costs more than ten extra players.

You can change tier at any time from your client area, prorated and without losing your progress.

3 good reasons

Why choose Nexus Games for your Garry's Mod server?

1-click plugins

Plugins install in one click from the panel, and your Workshop addons load automatically from your own collection ID, whatever your gamemode.

Human support, 7 days a week

A team that actually knows Garry's Mod, reachable on Discord and from NexusPanel, seven days a week. No bots, no queue: someone who answers.

Performance and a modern panel

Garry's Mod servers packed with addons and Lua scripts rely on the CPU: the frequency of the Ryzen 9 7950X3D holds up the busiest DarkRP servers. And NexusPanel keeps console, WebFTP and backups in one place.

What kind of Garry's Mod server can you host?

DarkRP

The go-to roleplay mode: jobs, economy, laws and custom cities, with MySQL for persistence.

TTT (Trouble in Terrorist Town)

The famous detective/traitor mode, with customizable maps and roles.

Prop Hunt & Murder

Fun hide-and-seek modes, perfect for communities and content.

Sandbox & building

The original sandbox: contraptions, Workshop addons and FastDL to distribute content.

SCP-RP & serious RP

SCP universe and serious roleplay with dedicated addons.

NexusPanel

NexusPanel: manage your Garry's Mod server in 1 click

Install plugins, gamemodes in 1 click, with no technical skills.

Garry's Mod hosting: everything you need to know

Garry's Mod is the ultimate sandbox, where every server reinvents itself through its gamemodes: DarkRP, TTT, Prop Hunt, Murder, pure Sandbox… These modes rely on countless addons and Lua scripts from the Steam Workshop, which quickly drive up the load on a single CPU thread as the server fills up.

Nexus Games hosts your Garry's Mod server on the high-frequency Ryzen 9 7950X3D, able to handle the busiest DarkRP servers without a drop in performance. You add addons, Workshop collections and Lua scripts via WebFTP, manage your gamemode and configs from NexusPanel, and benefit from instant delivery to launch your community in minutes, Anti-DDoS included.

Frequently asked questions · Garry's Mod server

Enter your Workshop collection ID in NexusPanel: the addons download and load automatically on startup, and clients pull the content through the Steam Workshop.

Yes. DarkRP, like TTT, Prop Hunt, Murder or Sandbox, installs easily; add your jobs and Lua scripts via WebFTP and use the included MySQL database to save DarkRP data.

FastDL is a web file server that clients pull content from over HTTP instead of through the slow in-game transfer. You point your server at it with sv_downloadurl in server.cfg and mirror your models, materials, sounds and maps there, ideally compressed with bzip2 so each file downloads faster. It is supported and configurable, and on a content-heavy server it turns a multi-minute first join into a few seconds. Keep the FastDL copy in sync every time you add or update an addon, otherwise clients fall back to missing content.

A red ERROR means the client is missing a model or material the server is using : it is a client-side content problem, not a server crash. Put every addon your gamemode needs into one public Steam Workshop collection, set that collection ID on the server so it is offered on connection, and tell your players to subscribe to it. Anything not on the Workshop (legacy addons, custom models) has to be served through FastDL so clients download it too. Finally, purge outdated or duplicate addons: two versions of the same pack, or an addon abandoned after a Gmod update, produce ERRORs no download can fix.

DarkRP works out of the box on its default flat-file storage, but any serious server moves to MySQL: money, jobs, inventories, doors and playtime survive map changes and crashes, and you can share the same data across several servers or read it from a web panel. Most DarkRP addons that handle economy or inventories expect MySQL through mysqloo. A MySQL database is included with your Gmod server, so you only need to fill in the credentials in your addon configuration.

For a small private DarkRP with friends, 10 to 20 slots is plenty. An active community server usually settles around 32 to 64 slots, and only established servers with a full addon stack need 100 or 128. Bear in mind that DarkRP load comes as much from your addons and props as from your player count, so a 32-slot server crammed with entity mods can work the CPU harder than a lean 64-slot one. Our plans have no commitment, so start where you are and move up when your peak actually fills.

Yes. ULX and ULib install for admin commands, groups and permissions across your gamemode.

From a handful of players to busy 128-slot DarkRP servers; the Ryzen 9 7950X3D handles servers heavily loaded with addons.

Garry's Mod is a paid game.

Nexus Games is rated one of the best Gmod hosts thanks to AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D processors, DDR5 ECC memory and Gen4 NVMe storage, with Anti-DDoS included, FastDL, MySQL and support 7 days a week.

At Nexus Games a Gmod server starts at $4.64/month. Pricing scales with the slots you choose, from 10 players up to 128, up to $52.29/month for the largest configuration : you only pay for the slots you need, with CPU, RAM and bandwidth included and Anti-DDoS standard.

Garry's Mod is single-thread bound and addon-heavy, so the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D with its 5.7 GHz clock and 128 MB 3D V-Cache (used on every Nexus Games Gmod server) holds up the busiest DarkRP servers.

Your Garry's Mod server is hosted in US East, on our Ryzen 9 7950X3D infrastructure with a 1 Gbit/s network and permanent Anti-DDoS protection. That proximity keeps latency low and stable for your players.

Yes. Download the files from your current server (world, configs, mods) and upload them through NexusPanel's WebFTP: you keep your progress, your settings and your add-ons. Our support team can guide you on Discord if needed.

Automatic backups are schedulable from NexusPanel (daily by default, adjustable frequency) and restorable in one click. You can also trigger a manual backup before an update or a mod installation.
