Slots and performance on an Arma Reforger server

Arma Reforger sets no artificial slot limit: you put in whatever you want. That is freedom, and it is also a trap, because nothing stops you advertising a hundred slots on a machine that holds sixty.
What actually loads the server
Fights, not headcount
Eighty players spread across the map cost less than forty concentrated on one objective. The engine simulates engagements, ballistics and AI locally: density is what weighs, not the counter.
AI
This is the most underestimated item. Every game-controlled unit is an autonomous simulation. A well-populated Conflict scenario, or a generous Game Master, shifts load far faster than ten extra players.
Vehicles
Each active vehicle is a physics entity tracked continuously. A server with a lot of armour moving around works harder than an infantry server at the same headcount.
Network
Enfusion uses more bandwidth than most survival games. On a populated server, the network can become the limiting factor before the CPU does.
It drops, it does not degrade
This is the thing to understand before picking a tier. Many games slow down gradually. Enfusion holds, holds, then drops all at once during a big engagement — which is to say, exactly when your players notice most.
So size for the peak, not the average, and keep headroom.
Advertise honestly
A server listed at a hundred that becomes unplayable at seventy loses more players than one honestly listed at sixty. An Arma server's reputation is built on stability during the big moments, not on the number in the browser.
Measuring rather than guessing
The only figure worth trusting is the one from your own server during a busy evening. Watch the frame time reported in the logs while a contested objective is being fought over, not during a quiet patrol. If it holds there, it holds everywhere. If it does not, adding slots will make the worst moment worse, and no amount of configuration tuning compensates for a machine that runs out of headroom mid-fight.
Our Arma Reforger hosting plans can be changed while keeping your configuration: starting sensibly and moving up when traffic justifies it costs less than the other way round.
